David Sandy
I am a field technician for Dr. Mortensen and the Weed Ecology lab. I began working with the lab in the spring of 2006, and have been involved in a wide array of research projects; everything from Roundup ready alfalfa to organic field crop production. I have helped with projects looking at weed seed bank degradation, the spread of Japanese knot weed in forest ecosystems, glyphosate resistant horseweed, and the role of native plant communities along field crop edges. My main focus during the 2007 growing season has been a research project looking at the three year transition process from conventional to organic agriculture. The duties for this project include managing the field operations, weed counts, and soil physics. When I am not counting weeds or praying for rain, you can usually find me at home enjoying my wife’s wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, or cleaning up the kitchen. Every now and then I find time to go trout fishing, or pitch a game of horseshoes with the folks from the lab.
